HYBRID Emergency Medical Technician: Spring 2026 Application

Dear Prospective Student:

Kiamichi Tech is proud to collaborate with Heartland Education to offer a hybrid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course for individuals seeking certification through the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Students may complete this 174-hour hybrid certification program through the Poteau campus in collaboration between the Workforce & Economic Development and Heartland Education. To be considered for admission into this program, interested candidates must complete the Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documentation Work-Keys tests and score a minimum of 5 on each exam to be eligible for application.

These tests may be taken in Kiamichi Tech’s Assessment Center; to schedule an exam and to learn the exam cost, please call 918-647-4525 and ask to speak with the Assessment Center.

This hybrid course combines online learning with hands-on clinical experience and skills training sessions, designed for motivated students who are self-starters, responsible, and disciplined. Students must be comfortable navigating online coursework and managing deadlines independently without regular oversight from their instructor.

Mandatory in-person skills classes every other Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at the Poteau Campus, with the first in-person class being held Feb. 10.

In addition to online coursework and in-person skills classes, students will be required to complete a 48-hour clinical rotation before they complete the program. This rotation will be scheduled with your instructor. High school students who enroll in this program must complete their clinical rotation with LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services; adults may use whichever ambulance service they choose as long as there are clinical agreements on file with Kiamichi Tech and Heartland.

Prerequisites
- Must be 18 years old by May 26, 2026.
- Must have a personal computer - cell phones are not an acceptable device to complete coursework on.
- Current high school students who enroll, and their legal guardians, must attend a mandatory in-person orientation with the lead instructor on Jan. 20 at the Poteau Campus at 5 PM.
- Must obtain American Heart Association's Basic Life Support CPR Certification. This certification will be offered in-person on Feb. 10 after orientation for an additional $80.00.
- Every high school student must complete a ride-along with an ambulance service and submit a signed verification of the ride-along with their application before Feb. 2, 2026.
- Must score no less than a 5 on the following WorkKeys tests: Math, Graphic, and Workplace Documentation to be considered for admission into the program.
Course Tuition

Tuition $1,150.00
- Tuition must be paid in full by Feb. 2, 2026, or a funding letter must be submitted and filed on your behalf if a business or organization is paying your tuition. It is the student's responsibility to ensure Kiamichi Tech has a funding letter on file for you.
- If you are using Kiamichi Tech's Step to Success Tuition Scholarship, you must provide the required documentation and submit the scholarship request no later than Feb. 2.

Mandatory Interviews

Every student who enrolls in this course must attend a mandatory interview on Jan. 27 at the Poteau Campus. Interviews are expected to last 15-minutes, and are tentatively set to begin at 5 PM. Phone interviews are available upon request.
