Dear Prospective Student:
Kiamichi Tech – Poteau Campus offers a 500-hour Electrical Technology Hybrid training program accredited by the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board that includes a combination of online coursework with in-person skills training. Embedded in the program are the potential for various certifications throughout the course. This class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Electrical Technology Classroom at the Poteau Campus.
Classes begin on January 6 and will conclude on December 17, 2026, but are subject to change. This class will not meet in the summer; classes are not in session from May 27 - August 10, but this is subject to change. Classes run in accordance with the Kiamichi Tech school calendar and observed breaks and holidays can result in cancelled classes.
Of the 500 hours, 222 hours are mandatory in-person training with 278 hours of self-guided online instruction that you may complete at your own pace and accordance with your own schedule. There will be assignments and exams that will have due dates and students are responsible for managing their coursework and deadlines. They must have all coursework completed and come to class for the in-person skills sessions prepared! There will not be time for remediation in-class as this time is designed for hands-on training with the instructor.
Attendance in this training program is mandatory, students are only permitted to miss a maximum of 9 training hours per semester. If a student misses more than 9 hours of class in a semester, they will be dropped from the program.
Course Description
The Electrical field is a fast-paced and highly evolving field. Electrical professionals must be flexible and able to adapt to an ever-changing workforce. This class will utilize textbooks, workbooks, and supplemental handouts in addition to computer-based coursework through the Canvas LMS platform. Students must be proficient in technology and computer use to be successful in this course. This is a hybrid course, so students are expected to complete online coursework throughout the week, and be ready to learn and master skills when arriving on campus for the in-person sessions. Students who do not take the initiative to complete their coursework prior to in-person sessions will be behind, and are subject to removal from the course as there is not time for remediation during in-person skills sessions.
• A focus on safety will be highly stressed.
• Students will learn how to use the NEC.
• Basic electrical theory and the practical application in the field.
• How to read and use Blueprints and Schematics.
• Conduit bending and installation.
• Circuit wiring and sizing.
• Intro to motor controls.
• Other new technologies will be incorporated as they affect the trade.
Homework Policy
• All work must be done and turned in by the due dates; late work will not be tolerated.
• To succeed in this course, you must have personal discipline, and take the initiative to ensure all coursework is completed on time, before in-person sessions.
• Shop work must be finished in the allotted time. No additional dates will be added to makeup skills.
• Attendance is mandatory. Students will be permitted a total of 3 absences throughout the duration of the course.
Technology Requirements
• Reliable internet connection.
• Laptop or desktop computer capable of running Canvas LMS.
• Access to Zoom or other video conferencing tools.
• Basic proficiency in using web browsers, email, and file uploads.
Instructor Communication
Students may contact the instructor via email or Canvas messages. Expect responses within 24 hours on weekdays. Office hours will be held virtually by appointment.

• Interpret residential and commercial wiring diagrams.
• Apply NEC standards to real-world scenarios.

Total payment for this course or a funding letter AND completed enrollment packet is due before the first day of class and is required to hold your seat in the class.
